I've always wondered about the origin of that phrase: "cold turkey.."
Anyways, as the winter break winds down, and you all prepare to go back to college, it's hit me, (yes six months later than everyone else) that high school life is over. Unfortunately for me, this last semester, I didn't really have any other choice than to cling to my high-school life, friends, personality, etc. and I continued under the impression that even though we had left high-school everything would be the same, thanks to the wonders of the internet.
But as I'm on the cusp of heading off to college (FINALLY) I've realized that these six months have
a.) made me depend on 8-10 people for 100% of my social life
b.) only made worse my addiction to the computer, the internet, and worst of all, CHATTING
c.) made me realize that perhaps long hair wasn't the best way to rebel O_o (jk, it totally was!)
d.) worsened my anal-retentive/OCD-ness to the point of insanity (aneesh and palash should prepare to read a long list of rules before they enter my room)
Treatment: Starting january 20th to March 1st, no computer. That means, no CHATTING, no being online 24/7 with an away message, no internet, no youtube, no comics, no blockles, no blogging, no commenting on other people's blogs, no online pranking (cue rohit weeping in happiness), and most of all NO FACEBOOK FOR HOURS (GASP). every time I need something to do, i'll leave the apartment, and find stuff to do. I refuse to become a slave to my computer, my past, my parents, etc. I can exercise! or join clubs! or meet people! or take swing dancing lessons (which i'm surprisingly good at, based off the one session i went to :P)
Obviously i'll need to use the internet at somepoint for school work and such, but thats what the computer lab is for. Now, clearly, in all likelihood i'll cave-in and go running back to my computer, but i feel that i need to at least make the attempt. This may mean that Neelaysh could start a facebook relationship w/ denzil, or ravi professes his love for jenny kwon in a recorded video of him doing a beautiful rendition of "A whole new world", I'll miss it completely. But i think it's worth it, to put the harker part of my life in a locked box for two months at least, so that the Berkeley part of my life can catch up in the six months that it's behind..
If any of you actually go into shan-withdrawal and need someone to aggravate you in that unique and original way that only i can manage, feel free to text or call me (i'm horrible at talking to people on the phone, so it's probably a good idea to practice that anyways). In the next couple of days before January 20th, i'll release lots of hi-res photos of my apartment, and whatnot, but after that, i'm on computer hiatus for close to 2 months. It already seems daunting...
p.s. everybody urge eric to ask out natasha, his pseudo-crush. Being shy is getting him nowhere..

5. That's what you get for picking on me about my OCD.
Even though I know it won't last, gluck!
This is the stupidest resolution I have ever heard. I hope and know you will fail, and when you do, you will realize why...
Okay, actually I agree with Neil that this is perhaps the dumbest resolution I have ever heard. However, my resolution (to be posted in a blog post shortly) is pretty dumb, too. Okay, not really. It beats your resolution by miles. However, everyone is entitled to their own retarded resolution, and if your resolution includes ignoring my resolution, then so be it!
uh I don't see how its stupid... believe it or not there are a lot of people who aren't nearly as computer dependent as us and they have quite normal in fact generally far more social lives. Shan's not trying to live in a cave, he's just trying to break his dependency on a computer for a social life. good luck and mad props if you even pull it off for a month.
